It's 12:05pm, noontime in Nashvegas. Well, it's been exactly one month since the new EP released. Feels like it's been 6 months. When it gets to this point I always think, ok what now. Sure I'm gonna tour which is by far the most fun I'm looking forward to, but there's gotta be more. Some of the goals I want to reach with this EP over the next year (hopefully by the end of this year) are: 1)Some credible reviews on a national level. You know, Billboard, Performing Songwriter, Vibe, URB, etc...yea, i want those. No, they don't change the way I look at my work, but if your big brother who u look up to says "Hey, I like this shirt on you, if you buy it I wouldn't blame you,"...you'd probably take a closer look. 2)TV/Movie airplay. Even as recent as twice this week, I've gotten emails from fan/friends saying "Hey, this sounds like a soundtrack" or "Dang it, I hear this so clearly in the middle of a movie scene"...and I do agree. not to toot my own horn, but the way it's recorded and delivered on songs like "SOS" or "When Birds Split" I think is a music supervisors dream (music supervisors are the so-called ones who decides what songs would be good for a picture).
So there is it, my goals. Now, I've already worn my heart on my sleeve by revealing how many EPs have been sold in real time. No, we didn't make our 200 goal, but it's a good indicator for me and for you, about what the numbers REALLY are, why they're that way, and what to do about it. Right now the score is: 126 sold. That's online AND the few shows I've done around the region. It doesn't include iTunes and digital downloads. So we in this together...you know what I know...they say don't reveal this type of info b/c it kills the "fantasy image" you fans will have about you. Well...tehy say don't be your own booking agent either, but here I am.
Got a few good shows in Louisville, KY hometown this weekend for derby weekend (I've NEVER been to the actual Derby race...guess that's goal #3). See ya soon.
Yours Truly, DL (excuse no spellcheck:)
