DL: I know Jodeci Lyrics by Heart

So this past weekend was Derby in Louisville, KY...my hometown. If there's one thing that I can consistently count on being the thing that I can "represent" for in my hometown, when UL or UK are sucking, or when folks just flat out ride KY into the dirt like it doesn't exist, it's the Derby (and the fact it's Muhammad Ali's hometown too...Ali...bom-bah-yay) that pulls me thru most arguments. The night I played I was competing with comedians Mike Epps and Lavell Crawford, as well as a ton of other Derby parties and events...so the medium crowd was no surprise. The first set was great and the late set was even better, played an average encore though (could kicked myself for not practicing more). After the two shows, I then speeded over the this big Derby party where I was to sing some covers with another band and get a little spare change for it. We sing some soul standards as my drunk black people walked by, several actually recognizing me from high school and saying "DOOONNNELLLL!!" as I played. Funny. But even funnier was the last song I did, which was supposed to be "never too much" by lutha. They didn't learn it so in it's place...you guessed it, "come and talk to me". Yes, by Jodeci. And even though I hadn't sung the song since high school I knew evey word WITH adlibs I might add. By the way, random fact: The group's name is a combination of the names of its members: Jo-Jo, DeGrate and K-Ci...now that's pure genius, or foolery.

So I did earn a few bucks Derby weekend, but next year I'm going mainstream. I'm actually going TO the Derby AND the official celebrity gala (yes i'll be paying like $75 to get in...unless u buy 100,000 EPs and turn me into a celebrity by May 2009:), and not settling for urban events of booty shakin (i didn't look:) girls in removable spandex painted jeans.

Headed to Bowling Green, KY with Jason Eskridge, Damien Horne, & Britten! Hope we make it thru even one song.
