LA#068: Late Grammy Recap From iPhone

Written 2/23/11: Today I'm on a plane leaving the western sun towards to familiar green grass of the east US.  My journey to LA is always...a journey.  The end road as we both know is unknown and hidden only available to those who dig beyond the top soil. I got to LA during Grammy week, the week when American musicians all come to this shiny city with secret or public dreams of taking home square trophies recognition and flex a year's worth of of hard work to get into parties of the highest caliber that are declared "at capacity" 15 minutes b4 u even arrive.

Last year was my first year in LA during February - b/c of the graces of one or two souls within the industry who believe in me & my music (namely Qiana Conley & Larry Wade), I was able to go several Grammy events and experience what I had no clue about first hand.  Now 365 days later I'm back - working, shaking hands, still second guessing myself (vulnerable DL), taking risks, and walking up to people who don't know me from a character on For The Love of Ray J.  And hey, I actaully knew a few more people than I did last year which made things a bit less -- robotic.

I did meet some greta new folks -- Needlz (producer of Bruno Mars - The Way You Are) - great dude to look out for, Chuck Harmony (producer of Fantasia - Bittersweet, congrats on the Grammy) - very quiet and had a genuine southern musician swag to him, listened to an acceptance speech from P. Diddy - who was oddly very humble, I liked it. Spoke again to Mr. Stephen Hill (recall my NYC writings for reference), had my great friend & wonderful manager (@skylimit4) get star stuck by none other than Goapele (her "favorite"), saw Adam Blackstone (great musical director to everybody) in Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles - I didn't speak tho, waffles kept my attentions a bit too long.  Worked with one of my favorite producers Mack McKinney - we're gonna make a bit of history I believe us two, AND heard the endless story of LA transplant Bruno Mars at least FIVE! different times in between that...So LA was good..but the verdict is still out...don't know where I'll end up...or do I have to "end up" at all.

Back to NYC next week...follow up!

love somebody --
