Last friday afternoon I got to do something I've wanted to do since I got here. I had the chance to go to the Harlem Children's Zone. I first about the Harlem Children's Zone through an episode of 60 minutes. I think it was a repeat episode, but it came on and I was in my Nashville apartment very intrigued by what one man had decided to do. So I was walking one day in Harlem last month and looked up and there it was, the Harlem Children's Zone. I said to myself, I want to come here and play for the kids here. Sidenote: I recently realized my real reason for doing music, to inspire people - from newborns to senior citizens, so that's always on my mind. So after playing my first showcase in New York last week I was approached by one of my new friends who introduced me to here roommate -- who worked for HCZ. And there it is. She said:
"I know it's late notice, but I think the kids would love to have you at our open mic this Friday. Can you --"
I stopped her. "Come play!!? YES! It's done, I'm there!" I said.
Was very grateful Ebonie Smith brought me in to do this, and also grateful to speak something into existence that I didn't even know I'd be doing here in New York City.
