So -- real quick for new readers -- I'm an indie music artist based in Nashville, TN by way of Louisville, KY. After 5 years of constant touring, selling albums out of "my trunk" (see itunes), and developing followings throughout the country, I've done what most consider "cliche" (including myself, and if you know me you know I HATE cliches). I packed one suitcase with my latest acoustic piano recordings, my piano (the baby baby grand), and a laptop, and moved to New York City for the rest of 2010to begin the journey to becoming a major recording artist. And I'm taking you with me. so now that my technical difficulties are fixed, I've got to catch you up on the past three weeks and how far I've gotten. No better way than with pictures. I like pictures.
First there was Anthony Anderson's Birthday Party:
Royale Watkins @royalewatkins - partner in crime
SummerStage 2010: Tamia, Stephen Hill, JBF Entertainment
Chrisette Michele performed
Rick Ross (is boss)
The biggest part of the day was when I met Stephen Hill, program director of all BET music (the guy everybody thanks in speeches). I went up to him and said "Mr Hill? I'm a new artist and I want to know how to get into BET Music Matters. I think I belong there." He immediately gave me his email and was off. But he said it so fast I couldn't write it down. So after the show was over I waited, and sure enough he came back around. "Excuse again Mr. Hill! Could you give me that address one more time?" -- This time I wrote it down. Sent him an email a day later and he responded! Music Matters 2011 is on the way, if I got anything to do with it.
That was my first two weeks of NYC, I thought I could get used to this. Little did I know, this wasn't how it would always be...
Weeks 3 & 4 coming...stay tuned
