AS:The Tale of the New Laptop

For the last 3 or so years thanksgiving night has been occupied by preparation for Black Friday Shopping. And for the past 3 or so years, Darnell and I have bundled up and stood in lines to try and catch a deal on a tv, computer, camera, or whatever deals were available. In the past we have come out defeated (been dealt whammys) last year was the digital picture frame, year before was a camera, or lcd tv, the year before was a laptop.

Let me be the one to tell you, Black Friday is BOGUS. Welp, let me say, was BOGUS.

I talked to Mr. Levine, and we decided that we'd hook up around 10 p.m. Stock up on food and warming essentials, then head out to office depot, so I could get a laptop. @ 9:50 he calls me and says..
"Bruh, I just got a ticket to see Angie Stone and Anthony Hamilton tonight."

I was heated, mostly because I really wanted to go, but couldn't afford to miss the opportunity for this great deal on a laptop. It was a huge gamble though, because for the last few years I have gotten the short end of the stick when they pass out the vouchers when the store opens.

So I was MAD. Mad, because it was a possibility that I would miss the concert, and leave office depot without a laptop. A double loss would not be something to smile at.

So I venture out to Office Depot. It was 11:00 p.m. When I arrive in the parking lot, there are 20 people in chairs wrapped in blankets waiting for the store to open. The ad said that there were a minimum of 6 per store, so odds were, if I was #21 in the line, I was out of luck. A guy at the end of the line recommended that I try the store in Indiana, I thought hey I have noting else to lose, so I got in the car, and drove off...

I arrived in jeffersonville approx 25 minutes later, and as I drove onto the parking lot, I see a much smaller amount of people. I park, and run to catch a spot, then out of nowhere an old white guy (Joe) hops out of nowhere, and is in line milliseconds before me. Crazy right? He was number 7 in line which made me # 8. What are the odds? If I would have driven a little faster, I could've been #6. So I walk to the front of the line and ask the ladies sitting there, what they were gonna purchase, and lo and behold they were all wanting the laptop.

One nice lady suggests that I drive over to the store in new albany which was only 10 minutes away. She had a feeling that there weren't many people there. She assured me that if it was sold out, she would tell any newcomers that I went to the restroom, and she would reserve my seat. I made a deal with joe that if there were available spots, I'd hold him one, If he brought my chair over. I had to leave my chair there to keep my spot. Well when I arrived in new albany, there was one car in the lot, and one driving in front of me. I got out of the car, and I was #2 in the line. I called the lady back, and informed her that there were spaces in line, she told Joe, and Joe showed up 20 minutes later with my chair. 5 hours later i had made new friends, and nearly frozen myself to death, but when i left office depot, I left with a new laptop. (i wrote this blog on it..)

this is so old news, but better late than never right?
